We’re currently searching for a Crash Safety Sensor Performance Engineer to join our team and ensure precise, reliable sensor performance across all crash modes. This role focuses on defining sensor quantity and placement, analyzing CAE predictions, developing no-deploy test matrices, and collaborating with ECU suppliers to balance deployment accuracy and system robustness.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced engineer with strong expertise in crash sensors, deployment algorithms, and packaging requirements for satellite sensors. Highly analytical, detail-driven, and collaborative, this individual will play a critical role in advancing safe, reliable, and innovative vehicle systems.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Drive decisions for total number of sensors and sensor locations needed to deliver passive restraint deployment times provided by Occupant/HV/Fuel system performance engineers in front/side/rear/rollover crash modes while meeting “nodeploy” targets for low-speed, pothole, curb, & nuisance impacts
  • Analyze CAE predictions of sensor signals to estimate deploy times for all impact modes
  • Develop comprehensive no-deploy test matrix to ensure sensor system robustness
  • Work with crash ECU supplier to develop appropriate trade-offs between no-deploy and must deploy events
  • Support testing team to ensure quality data collection
  • Create post-crash documentation to record results, observations and any necessary actions
  • Communicate all test results to the cross functional team

Preferred experience and skills

Candidates should have experience with crash sensors and algorithms for deployment decisions in front, side, rear, and rollover impacts as well as packaging requirements for satellite sensors. Candidates should also have experience developing a comprehensive no-deploy and abuse testing matrix.
